What is Art Therapy?

We are often drawn to creativity when the intensity of our emotions cannot be wrestled into submission by our mind.  We dance, we draw or doodle, we seek out particular songs, artists or movies. Instinctually we recognise that art, in all its forms, can serve as solace, release or an avenue through which to express our feelings.

Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, movement, sculpting and music.

People will often describe a sense of timelessness when creating, a stillness of mind.  It is in this stillness that the search for solutions, or casting judgment, is suspended. In this quiet space whisperings of a new story can emerge.
