About

Deborah Rohde, MA (Miecat)

As a filmmaker and community artist I have had the honour of exploring and sharing many stories in both intimate and community settings.  I am endlessly amazed and surprised at the incredible power of art.  It unfailingly opens up new spaces for me to pause and listen,

to learn a little bit more about who I am, and who I might become.

Having worked with groups and individuals in regional and remote settings, along with having lived experience, I am aware that mental health support services are sparse at best, if not absent all together.  This has motivated me to create and online service in my field of practice.

Not sure how it will translate but worth a try :)

Experience

I have worked on many projects as a community artist over the past twenty years in regional, remote and urban settings. Projects have varied widely from writing and directing a school play in a tiny regional town to garden design and sewing projects with indigenous communities.

I managed to score a presale to SBS for my first documentary project ‘Babes on Boards’. and have made many community doco's since; dog trails to cricket clubs, music videos to camp dogs.  I have a passion for stories and story telling.

I decided to study Art Therapy to enrich my work a community artist. I continue this work alongside my practice as a Creative Arts Therapist.
